    AFRICAN DAISY:
    Annual.  Direct sow seeds outdoors in early to mid spring, after the last frost.  Cover lightly and Water thoroughly.  Space 10" apart .  Germination Time: 10-13 days.  If starting seeds indoors, plant 8 to 10 weeks before last frost date.  Water them during prolonged droughts.  Otherwise, little additional water is needed. 

    Alyssum: Annual.  Plant on the surface in full sun.
    BABY BLUE EYES: Annual.  Plant 1/16” deep. To get a jump on warm weather in hot summer areas, sow seeds indoors 4 to 6 weeks prior to planting out. Seeds germinate in 7 to 12 days at 55 F. In cool summer areas, seeds can be sown in place outdoors in the spring as soon as the ground can be worked. Thin seedlings to a 6"-9" apart.

    BABY SNAPDRAGON:  Can plant indoors about 6-8 weeks before the last frost.  Plant Snap Dragons outdoors after the last frost.    Keep soil moist until seeds start to grow.  Sow about 1/4"deep and cover lightly.  Space plants 10-12" apart.

      Baby’s Breath:  Perennial/Annual.  Plant in full at sun with some wind protection.  Lightly cover seed with compost or sand.  Ground must be well prepared as these plants have deep roots.  Cut back after flowering for a second bloom.  Sow in spring or fall.

      BACHELOR BUTTON:
      Annual.  Plant them early in the spring at a depth of 1/16”.  Scatter them in garden, press them lightly into soil, you don't have to cover them.  Plant about 18" apart.  Seed must have darkness to germinate.  Sun well / drained soil.  Does not transplant well. 

      BELLF
      LOWER:  Annual.  Well drained soil, full sun and regular watering. Tolerates cold weather well. Plant in fall or place in refrigerator for several weeks as these need a period of cold to germinate. Sow 1/8" deep and space 10'' apart.  Full sun to partial shade. 

      Bells Of Ireland: Frost hardy annual.  Excellent cut flower fresh or dried.  Prefers full sun in moderately fertile moist, but well drained soil.  Needs light to germinate so should be sown on the surface and barely covered.  Will benefit from pre-chilling seeds.
       
      BISHOP'S FLOWER: Annual.  Sow outside 4 to 6 weeks before last frost date.  About 1/2" deep and 1/2" apart.  Thin to 18" - 24" apart.  Full sun. 
      BLACK EYED SUSAN: Perennial.  Seed directly in your garden early in the spring, cover lightly.  Space 1'-1/12' apart.  They like full sun or part shade.  Blooms in late summer and fall.  Needs water during the dry days of summer.  Surface sow as it needs light to germinate. 

      Blanket Flower: Perennial.  Sow seed on the surface as it needs light to germinate.  Plant in spring.  Keep moist until germination.  Needs full sun, will tolerate heat and dry conditions once established.  Good cut flower, long blooming season.
      BLUE FLAX FLOWER:  Perennial.  Sow seeds early in the season and cover lightly.  Plant 10"-12" apart.

      BLUE THIMBLE FLOWER: Annual.  Scatter seeds in garden, you don't have cover just press in lightly.  After seedling are up and going, you can thin out.  Usually about 6-8" apart.  Drought tolerant.  Full sun.  Reseeds freely. 

      California Bluebells:  Annual.  Plant in spring in full sun at a depth of 1/4".  Needs dark to germinate.  Full sun.  Deep watering will prolong blooms. 

      Candytuft: Annual.  Requires warm sunny position, well drained soil.  Sow thinly along borders where they are to bloom.  Thin to 6".  Can be planted in successive plantings to prolong the blooming season.

      CARNATION: Perennial.  After the last frost, press seeds into soil.  Space seeds 12" apart and cover lightly with 1/4" of soil.  Keep moist for germination. 

      Catchfly: Annual. Just cover in well drained fertile soil in fall or spring.  Will tolerate some shade.  Best if planted in clumps. 

      Clarkia: Annual.  Seed in fall or spring in sunny location.  Cover seed lightly.  Thin to 12" as each plant needs space.  Good cut flower.  Moderate water, allow to dry out between watering.

      Cockscomb Celosia:
      Annual. 
      Plant seedlings 8 inches apart in full sun and well-drained soil.
      Plant seeds indoors six to eight weeks before your region's last    frost, then plant outdoors 8 inches apart. Seeds need to stay moist. Requires warm soil to germinate.  Cockscomb does best in hot, slightly dry conditions, but will wilt if overly dry. Avoid wetting the flowers or leaves to prevent fungal diseases.Fertilize every four weeks or so. Cockscomb benefits from regular fertilizing. Pull out and discard in fall, once frost kills these plants.



      COLUMBINE: Perennial.  Plant in Spring or Fall.   Uncovered and about 1-2" apart, they germinate faster in light.  Full Sun or Light Shade.  They like a soil that is always a little moist.  Frost hardy. 

      Coneflower: Hardy Perennial.  Full sun, regular water. 

      Coreopsis: Perennial.  Full sun.  Sow in spring.  Cut back dead blooms until there is too many to cut back then trim all to encourage second bloom.  Will reseed and grow for years.  Good cut flower.

         
      COSMOS: Annual. Plant early in spring after last frost.  Space seeds about 8-18" apart at a depth of 1/8”.  Cover seeds lightly.    Reseeds itself easily.

      CHICORY PLANT: Perennial.  Sow the seeds 8"-1' apart, and 1 inch deep.  Do this early, in late spring to early summer, about a month after the last frost.  Space 9" apart.

      Chinese Forget Me Not: Annual.  Full sun or partial shade at a depth of 1/4".  Moderate water.  Frost hardy.  Plant in well drained soil in fall or spring.  Blooms most of the summer.  Do not overfeed as this will cause the plant to flop over.  Will reseed easily.

      CHINESE HOUSE FLOWER: Perennial.  Plant in spring after the last frost, and simply scatter seeds on loosened soil and then press the seed into the dirt.  Do not cover with soil.  Keep moist for germination.

      CREEPING THYME: Perennial.  Scatter Seeds and cover very lightly.  Self sows.  Ground cover spreads easily with little to no care.  Sun or part shade.  Drought tolerant. 

      Daisy: Annual/Perennial.  Plant at a depth of 1/8" in full sun.  Do not over water.  Pinch back spent blooms or select larger blooms and pick off smaller ones.  Sow annuals in spring, perennials in fall or early spring.  English daisy may bee added to lawns for blooms and can be mowed.  Flowers will pop back up in days.
      EASTER EGG PLANT: Annual.  Start indoors about a month before the last frost.  Transplant seedlings outdoors after the last frost.  Press seeds into soil, space 9-12" apart and  cover lightly.

      EVENING PRIMROSE: Perennial.  Grows quickly, blooms heavily, and reseeds.  Sow inside before last frost.   Sow outside in Spring or Fall.  About 1/16" depth and cover lightly. 

      Evening Scented Stock: Annual.  Sow in spring on soil surface.  Full sun.  Stagger planting to prolong blooming.  Shelter from strong winds.  Does not transplant well.  Fragrant and good cut flower. 

      Forget Me Not: Perennial (Love and Remembrance).  Sow depth: 1/16".  Plant in early spring or fall after frost.  Re-seeds easily.  Full sun or almost full shade.
      FOUR O'CLOCKS: Perennial.  Plant seeds in early spring about 12" apart.  They become very bushy.  If you soak the large  seeds in water
      overnight before planting they will germinate quicker.

      FOXGLOVE FLOWER: Biennial.  Sow seeds early in the season and cover lightly.  Space about 24" apart. Light shade regular watering.  All parts of the plant are poisonous.  Blooms until September.  Cut back to encourage side shoots.  
      GODETIA: Annual.  You can start indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost date, or Sow seeds after the last frost, and cover lightly.  Space 16"-20" apart.  They need a great amount of moisture and should be watered regularly in dry weather.
      HOLLYHOCKS: Perennial.  You can start indoors six to eight weeks before the last frost.  Outdoors press into soil and cover lightly.  Spacing should be 18-24".
      HOSTA PLANT:  Perennial.  Start seeds indoors several weeks before the last frost.  After the last frost, transplant them outside about 2' apart.  Long germination period.
      Lupine: Annual / Perennial. Full sun to partial shade.
      Sow seed and cover lightly with 1/8"
      of garden soil.Space plants 12"-14" apart. Height: 2'-3'.

      MALLOW: Annual. Mallows can used be to line driveways and are suitable for borders.  Cover seeds lightly then thin to 18".  Very showy, pleasing flower.  Grows quite tall but does not require staking.  Average Water Needs.  Water regularly, do not overwater.  Full sun to light shade.
      MALTESE CROSS LYCHNIS: Perennial.  Directly sow into your flower garden, or seed indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost.  Sow seeds early in the season, and cover lightly. 
        Marigold: Annual.  Good border plant.  Plant in well drained sunny location.  Will tolerate poor soil.  Remove spent blooms to encourage new flowers.  Will bloom all summer.  Sow early in the season after the last frost about 6-8" apart and cover lightly.
        MEXICAN HAT FLOWER: Perennial.  Should be planted in full sun to light shade, about 8-18" apart cover and lightly.
        MEXICAN SUNFLOWER: Annual.  Can be started inside or outside.  Press seeds into soil and lightly cover.Plant outside when all risk of frost has passed.  Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle when all risk of frost has passed.  Germination usually takes 7-21 days

        Morning Glory: Annual climbing showy vine.  Pre-soak overnight or score the seed to increase germination.  Sow at a depth of 1/4" in full sun after frost.  Keep moist until germination occurs.  Can be slow to start.  Blooms all summer, flowers open in the morning and fade in the p.m. 

        Nasturtium: Annual.  Will reseed.  Plant at a depth of 1/4".  Sun or light shade in spring or fall.  Can be thinned or transplanted.  This plant is edible and can be used in salads or as garnish.  It is spicy/nutty.  In warm climate this plant may live for a long time and will reseed itself giving ongoing plants.  Tall varieties are great for hanging baskets or hillsides.
        PAINTED DAISY: Annual.  If starting indoors first, start the seeds about two months in advance before the last frost.  Outdoors, sow seed about 1/4", space 15-18" apart and cover lightly.  Keep moist.

        PANSY / Swiss Giants: Perennial.  Thrive in shady areas or with partial sunlight.  Plant seeds at a depth of 1/16".  Germination is in 10-30 days for most seeds.  Some seed will germinate up to 60 days.  In warm climates start in winter.  For faster germination and flowering, they can be started indoors and transplanted outdoors in the spring.  Self sows freely. 

        PEONY POPPY:
        Annual.  Press into soil, but do not cover.  plant 12" apart.  Germination is in 7- 21 days.


        Persian Jewels / Love in a Mist:  Annual.  Plant at a depth of 1/16” where plant is to grow.  Sunny location.  Nigella will reseed freely.  Deadhead to produce more blooms if the pods are not wanted, however the pods are used for dry arrangements and add interest to the garden after all flowers are gone in late fall.

        PETUNIA: Annual.  Full sun/partial shade.  Scatter seeds and water into soil, do not cover.  To sow indoors, 4 to 6 weeks prior to planting outdoors.

        PHLOX MIX: Annual.  Grows in most climates.  Plant in moist but well drained soil at a depth of 1/16”.  Be sure seeds are covered, as they require darkness to germinate.  Do not transplant well.  Will tolerate some shade but best in sun.  Pick spent blooms to prolong season.

        Poppy & Shirley: Annual / Perennial.  Poppies are frost hardy and prefer little or no shade, and deep moist, well drained soil.  Sow in spring or autumn, most re-seed freely.  Sow on surface of ground.  Do not transplant well. 

        Primrose: Perennial.  Sow in well-drained soil or ideal in rock gardens.  Will spread so give it ample room.  Will tolerate dry conditions.  Sow on the surface in spring or fall.  Flower opens in the evening. 

        Rocket Larkspur: Annual.  Full sun.  Sow at a depth of 1/8", needs darkness to germinate.  Sow in fall or early spring.  Thin plants.  Seeds and plant matter are toxic.  Moderate water.
        SIBERIAN WALLFLOWER: Perennial.  The plants are very easy to grow. Simply scatter the seed in spring or fall on loosened soil, and press into the dirt do not cover.
        SNOW-IN-SUMMER: Perennial.  Seeds can be directly seeded into your flower garden, or seeded indoors for transplanting later. Sow seeds early in the season and cover lightly with 1/8" of fine starting soil.
        STRAW FLOWER: Annual.  After the last frost, press into soil, but do not cover.  Needs light to germinate.  Germinates in 10-20 days.  Plant 12" apart. 

        SUNFLOWERS: Annual / Perennial.Sow in garden about 1/2 inch deep and cover.  Keep soil moist until germination has taken.  Plant 1-2' apart. Germination: Approximately 2 weeks, depending upon soil warmth and weather conditions. Keep soil moderately moist during germination. 

        Sweet Pea: Annual fragrant flower.  Soak seed to speed up germination.  Plant not more than 1" deep and 1-2" apart.  When seedlings reach 4-5" thin to no less than 6" apart.  Pinch out tops to produce strong side branches.  Can be started inside in peat pots several per pot.  Plant the entire pot 1' apart and thin leaving strongest seedlings.  Ample water. Seedlings need support or trellis to climb.
         
        SWEET WILLIAM: Perennial.  Sow Sweet William seeds early in the season and cover lightly after the last frost.  For spring blooms, start indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost.    Space 15-18" apart.  Full Sun.  They will tolerate a light shade.
        TOUCH ME NOT: Annual.  Seeds should be soaked in water for 24 hours before planting.  Sow seed in early spring. Space 12-18" apart.  Scatter and press seeds into soil and cover lightly.  Keep soil moist until germination. 

        Wildflower Mixes:  Keep moist until germination occurs, do not allow water to pool.  Plant after frost date in well-drained soil.  Cover lightly with rake.  Cut back spent blooms to keep the area looking fresh.

        Zinnias: Annual.  Great cut flower.  Plant at 1/16" in depth.  Thin to 12” apart.  Do not plant too early, as they are tender.  Full sun.
