Foxglove

Perennial, Digitalis purpurea, Purple cream. Numerous tubular flowers bloom on a spike, ranging in color from purple to white. They have spikes of distinctive, freckle throated bells. The trumpet like blooms cluster together on the tall stem. Attract hummingbirds and bees. Foxglove plants are among the most poisonous plants. The poisonous substance in the leaves is called Digitalis. Do not grow them if small children or pets will be spending time in the yard. Will thrive in shade and tolerate dry soil. Will self seed readily. Sow seeds directly into your flower garden after all danger of frost, and cover lightly with 1/8" of garden soil. Spacing should be 15" to 18" apart. Sun to partial shade.
