Balloon Flower

Perennial, Platycodon Grandiflorus Komachi (Chinese Bellflower, Japanese Bellflower), Balloon shaped buds open to bell shaped flowers. A heavy bloomer. Flower has very unique blue blossoms resembling an umbrella before it fully opens 2–3" across. The large flowers are dark to pale blue. The leaves are oval, and the buds are balloonlike before opening. Increases its blooming season as it ages. Long living plant. Commonly planted as garden borders. Withstand periods of drought.   Full sun to partial shade. The flower seeds require sunlight to germinate, do not cover the seeds with soil. Lightly put them into the soil 1/16" deep.   Germination takes approx. 3 weeks, depending upon soil and weather conditions. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.
